For the first time in our history we're going to be closing the doors for longer than a day. This is a real kick in the teeth for us as you can probably imagine. We're a small shop, selling a relative luxury, in a small town. Selling records is a precarious business at the best of times. We understand everybody's in a tricky position and records are not at the forefront of your mind, but we believe we're doing some good things here, and hopefully you also see some merit in what we do. So if you are able, please do consider...
Rolling Stones '69 Author Patrick Humphries Q&A with Emily Mackay
Patrick Humphries will be in discussion here at South with music journalist Emily Mackay (Observer/Guardian/Quietus) about his recent book, Rolling Stones '69. It's free entry and the book will be on sale, with Patrick happy to sign copies afterwards. Facebook event page HERE In what was a momentous year of social change, the Rolling Stones experienced the most significant twelve months of their career. At the start of 1969, they were a successful blues band returning to their rock n roll roots after a recent experiment with psychedelia. By December, they had released the classic album Let It Bleed, lost...
January Album of the Month
Craven FaultsErratics & Unconformities(Leaf)>> BUY << Erratics and Unconformities is the first album by Craven Faults. It follows three EPs: Netherfield Works, Springhead Works and Nunroyd Works. We take the canal towpath out of the city. We fork north shortly afterwards. Is this where it started? The terrain gradually becomes more rugged. Familiar. Wild. Evidence of human activity is less immediate in this glacial landscape. It’s there if you seek it. But easy to ignore. If...

Albums Of The Year 2019
Every year it's the same - "there's no good music anymore". I hear it every day, no doubt you hear it a lot too. But those people just aren't paying attention. I get it, it's hard to keep up with new music these days - there's no one authoritative voice championing things (John Peel, NME, etc), there's a lot of voices shouting about a lot of things and so it's easy to switch off and stick to what you know. We all do it from time to time. But 2019, like every other year, has been full of great records -...
