So like clockwork as June comes to a close everywhere will be pushing their best of the year (so far) lists on you.  And we're no different! A little later than planned, but here's a video of Barrence Whitfield & The Savages playing our first ever in-store captured by Agency Southend Not only is it pretty amazing that Barrence and his Savages played here, them being one of my favourite bands and all, but the guitarist Peter Greenberg and the bass player Phil Lenker were both in seminal Boston punk band The Lyres!  They both seemed a little confused that somebody from Essex, who's never set foot in Boston, firstly knew their first band so well and was a little awestruck to meet them.  I made Peter...

On Thursday 15th May (our two month anniversary fact fans), Barrence Whitfield & The Savages drop by to christen our shop with our first ever in-store performance.   They'll be playing a short set from 5.30pm, before heading over to the Railway for a gig that evening.  Make sure you arrive early, as we're a small shop and can only fit in so many people! This Record Store Day, which takes place on Saturday 19th April, we make our debut! Throughout the day we'll have DJs, including Gregory Wells from Domino Recording Co. and his own Hey Moon label, and Paul Lagden, guitarist in Southend's own rock 'n roll reprobates The Wobbly Lamps. We also have Zoë Howe signing copies of her book Barbed Wire Kisses: The Jesus & Mary Chain Story, which is released exclusively to independent record shops that day.  Zoë has written acclaimed books on The Slits, Wilko Johnson, Florence & The Machine and is currently writing about Dr Feelgood legend Lee Brilleaux...
