melodiegroup is the impeccable indie-pop vehicle driven by Roy David Thirlwall of The Windmills - The Music Seen - ArtGruppe - Ghost Music fame. This is the fourth melodiegroup album (others appeared on Washington DC’s Matinée Recordings), created over a period of approximately three-and-a-half years. It documents the loss of two parents and the end of a relationship, and what happens afterwards. Songs inspired by reality, and songs which create a new reality; inadvertent ‘method’ songs, singing situations into existence. Time moves in several directions, backwards as well as forwards. It is intimate yet offhand and throwaway. The album knows there is no truth. Jean-Paul Sartre to waitress: ‘I’d like a cup of coffee, with no cream.’ Waitress: ‘I’m sorry, monsieur, but we’re out of cream, How about with no milk?
Reviews of Thirlwall’s previous releases:‘flawless pop songs...outstanding yet meticulous’ Popmatters ‘Stunning... timeless...’ Pennyblack magazine ‘Roy Thirlwall is a pop-rock craftsman, with a legacy of impeccably formed songs that are sad and sweet, wry and hopeful, and above all memorable. Anything with his name attached to it shares these qualities’ Erasing Clouds
